Zemaya is a 2nd grader in CIS at Winterfield Elementary School. She is also the artist of this year’s CIS Holiday Card! Her CIS Site Coordinator at Winterfield, Anna Helms, says Zemaya is an excellent student who works hard in class, participates, and is always eager to help other classmates.

When you first meet Zemaya, she has a shy, sweet smile that you instantly fall in love with. Once she warms up to you, her personality really starts to show. She is very friendly and creative and loves to tell stories. When her grandmother recently got home from the hospital, Zemaya’s cousin said that Zemaya talked for hours, catching her grandmother up on everything that had been happening with them. She said they eventually had to take Zemaya out of the room to let grandma rest!

Zemaya lives with her mother, grandmother, an aunt, uncle and two cousins, who are also in CIS at Winterfield. CIS has helped the girls with caring support, including uniforms and school supplies, and the family especially appreciates how CIS has kept the children engaged in positive activities during after-school hours and summer break. All three girls are enthusiastic participants in Winterfield’s “Garden Buds Club” and the “Summer Buds” program, which help maintain the school’s community garden. Zemaya has participated in the Garden Buds Club since she was in Kindergarten. Since she and her cousins live just down the street from the school, they often walk over to see what is going on in the garden and help out.

CIS also encouraged Zemaya to join the Winterfield Youth Orchestra this year. She is enjoying trying out all the different instruments but finds she really likes the clarinet!
