CIS partnering with UNC-Charlotte to hold “Fatherhood Summit”

Charlotte, NC
– Communities In Schools’ Project LIFT Team and the Safe Journey program (teen mothers) and UNC-Charlotte’s College of Health and Human Services are co-hosting a “Mecklenburg County Fatherhood Summit” on Thursday, July 11 from 3:00-7:00 pm at the UNC-Charlotte Center City building, 320 E. 9th Street. The event is free and open to all fathers, grandfathers, uncles, or any men serving in a father/guardian role.

Shantiqua Neely, Project LIFT Program Director with Communities In Schools, said that she and her staff on the Project LIFT team see a great void in family relationships where the fathers are absent or only minimally involved with their children. Neely said that the event’s goal is to “challenge, educate, and uplift fathers to become more engaged, involved and committed to their children and families.”

The event is free and dinner will be served, but event organizers do ask that participants register in advance and complete a brief survey. There will also be a drawing for a flat screen TV give-away. Visit www.dadsknow.info to register and take the survey. (Once you follow the link, click on “Fatherhood Summit,” and then click “Click here to view the Flyer and register.”
