Youth Development Coordinator

Position Available: Youth Development Coordinator

Job Status: Exempt / Full Time / 11-Month Position

Location: CMS Worksite

 

Primary Function: Work to identify and access the needs of at-risk students, while coordinating human service partnerships to deliver required services. Works directly with students and families to encourage and prepare students for high school and post-secondary education or training. This position is a 11-month position, working from August through June each year. 

 

Major Areas of Responsibility:

• Coordinate process to identify, select, enroll targeted at-risk students, specifically those classified as foster care and TANF

• Consult w/school guidance counselor to ensure students are enrolled in appropriate classes to achieve career plan

• Expose Middle School students to Career Shadowing opportunities to promote post-high school career choices and interests

• Provide partnerships and on-site coordination of human services to the school site that address the needs of students enrolled in program

• Coordinate and supervise college visits for all CIS middle school students and non-CIS students, providing support and exposure to college application process, financial aid, and scholarships

• Monitor and counsel students around attendance, behavior and academic progress, implementing strategies for improvement

• Consult w/teachers around study skills so academic needs are met

• Coordinate staffing aimed at assessing needs, setting goals, and strategizing around interventions, linking school professionals, parents, and appropriate agency/community personnel

• Provide overall case management and dropout prevention services to identified 90-100 students, ensuring social, emotional, medical and educational needs are addressed using resources available at school/community level

• Participate and coordinate student-training efforts to enhance life skills using community resources/support

• Coordinate volunteer efforts to assist in academic success

• Work with parents of CIS students to assist and support students’ academic success, as well as career planning and training

• Complete appropriate school/CIS documentation to capture services provided, as well as other necessary documents

Job Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree (Masters preferred) in human services, social work, counseling, education, or public administration field

• Minimum of 2 years’ experience working with youth in a professional capacity in human services, social work, counseling, education, etc.

• Computer skills to include Microsoft Office programs

• Exceptional interpersonal, organizational, and management skills, as well as verbal and written communication and presentation skills

• Self-motivated with the ability to make independent decisions, engage with students and parents

• Knowledge of Youth Behavioral Issues/Community programs and resources available preferred

• A Valid NC Driver’s License, with an acceptable driving record
