Site Coordinator, Adjudicated Youthful Offender

Job Status:  Exempt / Full Time / 12 Month                                                                                   Locations: Various CMS Locations                                                                                                                                       

Primary Function: Under supervision of CIS Program Director, the Site Coordinator (SC) will identify and assess the needs of adjudicated youthful offenders through a case management services in the form of prevention and intervention services; coordination of pro-social activities and services that guide youthful offenders toward fulfillment of their potential for academic, physical, and social-emotional growth; discourage involvement in gang or anti-social activities and offer school-based opportunities for engagement in pro-social/positive activities that promote cognitive and behavioral change in all settings, lessening occasions to re-offend of engage in criminal activity. Work with adjudicated youths, families and siblings to encourage and prepare students for success beyond high school; possible engagement in college and free from further involvement in the justice system.

Major Areas of Responsibility: Identify adjudicated students and administer comprehensive assessments related to strengths/deficits in education, including social, emotional, familial, physical and judicial background in an effort to build repertoire, relationship with all involved.

  • Coordinate the process for ensuring there is appropriate planning and problem-solving around the needs and resources for the student
  • Provide on-site coordination of human services that address the needs of adjudicated youthful offenders placed in the program. The SC will ensure that public and private human service partnerships are present and engaged to deliver necessary services to each student 
  • Consult with school counselor to ensure adjudicated youthful offenders are enrolled in appropriate courses to achieve educational and career plan
  • Work with home school teachers/counselors/social workers to gather appropriate level of school assignments and work for student inmates to complete in accordance with the Individual Education Plan (IEP). 
  •  Monitor behavior and academic progress; as well as implement appropriate strategies to assist student in overcoming academic difficulties.
  •  Counsel and advise students around academics, behavior and post-secondary opportunities and exposures
  • Strengthen linkage to vocational technical education programming, so that adjudicated students aptitudes and interests might be assessed.
  • Coordinate staffing (support team meetings) aimed at assessing needs setting goals and strategizing around interventions, which may be implemented. Link school team professionals, parents, along with appropriate agency/community personnel for the purpose of addressing student adjudicated youthful offenders’ issues, work effectively with parent to support and encourage participation in the transition process
  • Coordinate and support Parent Involvement activities, engage in efforts to strengthen the number of parents involved in school programming. Encourage parental participation in and support to PTSA efforts.
  • Work with each identified student to form relationships; encourage expression through the use of journals
  • Coordinate staffing (Case Meetings) aimed at assessing needs, setting goals and strategizing around interventions, which may be implemented. Link school team professionals, parents, along with appropriate agency/community personnel for the purpose of addressing adjudicated student issues. 
  • Work with parents of student to assist and support students’ transition to home school assignment or other educational setting to ensure academic success, as well as career planning and training.
  • Assist with completion of appropriate school documentation and other documentation relative to capturing services provided to students, as well as other necessary documents.
  • Complete appropriate school documentation and other documentation relative to capturing services provided to students, as well as other necessary document, i.e., assessment, parent consents, student profile sheets, court reports referral forms, etc. Ensure that accurate and timely data is entered in CIS Student Information System (CISDM.

 

Job Requirements:

  • Candidates must have at least a bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) and 2 years of relevant equivalent experience in education, social work, criminal justice, or related field. Must have a valid driver’s license and automobile insurance, with an acceptable driving record.
  • Preferred experience working with adjudicated youth.
  • Aside from having experience in working with school-age children and familiarity with local health and human service agencies an SC must possess the knowledge, skills and personal attributes needed to support the critical features of positive youth development settings.  These core competencies are as follows:

  • Computer skills to include working knowledge of Microsoft Office software
  • Self-motivated with the ability to make independent decisions

Preferred Requirements:

  • Knowledge of Youth Behavioral Issues/Community programs and resources available

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Candidates must have:

o   Excellent verbal and written communication skills

o   Ability to analyze and interpret business periodicals, professional journals, technical manuals, and governmental regulations

Ability to write and edit reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
