At each high school site we serve, the CIS “safety net” includes, but is not limited to:
- Providing comprehensive case management and dropout prevention for 100 students
- Working with school staff to monitor students' behavior/attendance/promotion/academic progress
- Consulting with school guidance counselor to ensure new high school students are enrolled in appropriate courses to achieve career plan and support for other needs
- Organizing staffings aimed at assessing needs, setting goals and strategizing around interventions for high school students
- Coordinating volunteers and monitor mentors
- Connecting families to community resources for basic needs and services
- Planning and presenting Life Skills Workshops for students and parents
- Providing ThinkCOLLEGE® and other scholarship opportunities for eligible students
- Organizing Job and Career Shadowing for CIS students
- Providing opportunities for CIS students to participate in the CPCC Summer Bridge Program and the Summer Youth employment with City and County
- Providing college access and career readiness programming, which exposes students (and parents where applicable) to college tours, financial aid and scholarship information, SAT/ACT entrance exam preparation, the college application process, job shadowing and internship opportunities, career fairs, and much more
- Coordinating with CIS’s Safe Journey/APP team to provide appropriate teen parenting services and other educational services/needs, if applicable
- Providing opportunities for social development, cultural enrichment, experiential learning, and community service/service learning
