Celebrating Our Graduates

Friend and Fundraising Events

Celebrating Our Graduates (April)

This annual celebration luncheon honors the accomplishments of CIS seniors who have overcome tremendous challenges to stay in school and graduate from high school. Corporate sponsors are needed.

Dine Out For Kids LogoDine Out For Kids (June)

Dine Out For Kids is an annual event that offers area restaurants and their patrons, corporations, and civic and faith-based organization members the opportunity to demonstrate their support for at-risk kids in our community. Participating restaurants donate a portion of the day’s sales to CIS. Corporate sponsors and participating restaurants are needed.

Thank you to our 2011 Dine Out For Kids® Participating Restaurants!

Lowcountry on the Green (September)

Join Communities In Schools and friends for Seafood, Shagging & Shenanigans! It’s a lowcountry lawn party featuring delicious food, southern style spirits, and dancing to beach music.  All proceeds benefit CIS. Corporate sponsors and party hosts needed.

Special Campaigns

School Tools Campaign (August)

The “School Tools Campaign” is a partnership between Communities In Schools, WSOC-TV, and Classroom Central to provide school supplies to children in Charlotte-Mecklenburg and 21 surrounding counties who may not have the necessary “tools” to make a successful start in school. This Campaign, initiated in 1997, has grown tremendously in the past several years and is a huge community accomplishment involving many volunteers throughout the region.

Holiday Season Campaign (November - December)

During the holiday season you can give a child the chance to shine by making a holiday season donation and/or purchasing Communities In Schools holiday greeting cards.  Each year, the CIS holiday card is inspired by using artwork by one of our students. For a minimum donation per card, Communities In Schools Staff will address and send cards to your list of recipients, stating that a gift has been made to Communities In Schools in the recipient’s honor.

Park Road Books GroupPark Road Book Tree Initiative (November – December)

Communities In Schools and Park Road Books in Park Road Shopping Center team up each year to give the joy of reading and books to CIS students.  A tree in Park Road Books’ store is decorated with ornaments created by our students, including the name, age, and “book wish” of a student.  Customers who select an ornament are given a 20% discount on a book purchased for the student.  It’s a wonderful way to give a new book to a child who may never have had a book of his or her own.
