This year’s Communities In Schools (CIS) holiday card proudly features the wintry artwork of “Kim,” a CIS graduate. She created this artwork in 1997 when she was a CIS student in the 4th grade at what is now Highland Renaissance Academy. With loving parents who immigrated to the United States, Kim aimed to be the best in all that she pursued in honor of her parents’ sacrifice to provide her with hope for a better future. However, she needed help along the way.

With the CIS safety net of intensive case management, vital community resources, and caring relationships, Kim had the support she needed to overcome many obstacles. Ultimately, she not only graduated with her high school diploma, but also went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in accounting from a North Carolina university.

We at CIS are encouraged by Kim and the tens of thousands of CIS students who have successfully walked this path, for their accomplishments reflect our core mission of empowering at-risk students to stay in school and achieve in life. In 1997, we were serving 2,500 students and today, with the continued generosity of many supporters like you, we will serve over 6,500 students this school year.

Thank you for your commitment to CIS and the promising students we serve. Your support provides help and hope for those who need it most.
