Marcus Chappelle was in the 11th grade at Garinger High School when CIS arranged for him to receive dental care and braces, donated by Drs. Hull, Burrow & Case Orthodontics. Marcus not only received a brand new smile, he also unexpectedly received inspiration in the form of a career.
Marcus says he knew first-hand what a healthy, confident smile could do for a person, and during the process it dawned on him that he could help others through the profession of dentistry.
“The experience had a great impact on me and inspired my choice of dentistry as a career,” says Marcus. “I am very grateful to CIS and to Drs. Hull, Burrow & Case. It changed my life.”
Upon graduation from Garinger, Marcus enrolled in Central Piedmont Community College and received his Dental Assistant certification. He met Dr. David Moore through an internship and later was offered a job with Dr. Moore’s Pediatric Dentistry clinic. He continues to work there full-time as a Dental Assistant, while also attending evening classes at UNC-Charlotte. Marcus hopes to obtain his undergraduate degree in pre-Dentistry and then enroll in the Dental School program, and eventually open his own dental practice.
“CIS helped me realize the importance of education and to grasp every opportunity,” says Marcus. “I’m so glad that CIS recognized my dental needs and sought a resource, and that I recognized an opportunity for a career when it came my way.”
