Jail North/Jail Central Program
New during the 2009-2010 school year, Communities In Schools formed a partnership with the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Department and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) to provide counseling and resources to juvenile offenders housed at Jail North (males) and Jail Central (females) with the goal of helping them transition successfully back into a CMS school or another educational setting. As a preventative strategy, CIS also identifies younger siblings of the offenders and wherever possible, connects them with CIS programming and/or other community resources.
