Many thanks to everyone who supported Dine Out For Kids® this year!  CIS greatly appreciates our sponsors, participating restaurants, and all of YOU in the community who "dined out" on June 16!

Communities In Schools (CIS) is the nation's largest and most effective dropout prevention organization, helping young people stay in school, successfully learn, and prepare for life by connecting needed community resources with schools. By forming partnerships with human service agencies, businesses, civic groups, faith communities, and individual volunteers, CIS connects children and families to the relationships and resources they need to be successful. CIS of Charlotte-Mecklenburg currently serves more than 4,500 students annually in 37 selected Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools.

In adddition to the school-based dropout prevention services, the scope of CIS programming includes career exploration, college access programs (ThinkCOLLEGE®, Kids To College®, Talent Search), and teen parenting programs (Safe Journey and Adolescent Parenting Program/APP).

CIS is funded in part by Mecklenburg County, the United Way of Central Carolinas, and the Charlotte Merchants Foundation, as well as corporations, civic and faith organizations, and individuals.

Message from the Executive Director
Dr. Bill Anderson
Winter 2009

"I was once told by a very wise person that the key to success for any nonprofit organization is to be able to articulate two main themes, need and effectiveness, and to do this clearly and concisely.  The need for Communities In Schools has never been greater; while the overall annual dropout rate has improved in CMS, only 67 out of 100 high school students are graduating from high school in four years."  Read More
