Woman Helping KidThe mission of Communities In Schools (CIS) is to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life.  As the nation’s leading dropout prevention organization, Communities In Schools is helping build a stronger local community where every child is capable of reaching his or her greatest potential.

An affiliate of the national Communities In Schools network, CIS of Charlotte-Mecklenburg serves over 6,500 students annually in 44 high poverty Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools who are most at-risk for dropping out. Through full time school-based Site and Program Coordinators, CIS connects students and their families to the relationships and resources they need to be successful. The scope of CIS-Charlotte’s current programming includes school-based dropout prevention (grades K-12); college access and career readiness; support for teen mothers balancing the challenges of childcare and high school graduation; and working with youthful offenders to continue their education.

We hope you will join us in our mission to help all students graduate from high school and be prepared for college, careers, and life.
