The mission of Communities In Schools (CIS) is to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. As the nation’s leading dropout prevention organization, Communities In Schools is helping build a stronger local community where every child is capable of reaching his or her greatest potential.
An affiliate of the national Communities In Schools network, CIS of Charlotte-Mecklenburg serves over 6,500 students annually in 44 high poverty Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools who are most at-risk for dropping out. Through full time school-based Site and Program Coordinators, CIS connects students and their families to the relationships and resources they need to be successful.The scope of CIS-Charlotte’s current programming includes school-based dropout prevention (grades K-12); college access and career readiness; support for teen mothers balancing the challenges of childcare and high school graduation; and working with youthful offenders to continue their education.
