"Through CIS, my dream of attending college became a reality."

Dawn Rossmeisl became involved with CIS during her senior year, when she transferred to Midwood Alternative High School.  Dawn needed a more flexible high school class schedule, which would allow her to work as well as attend school.  Midwood and CIS were able to meet this need, and more.

Dawn says she is the first female in her family to attend college and was intimidated by the prospect.  “I had no idea of how or what to do,” says Dawn. “I just knew that I wanted to go to college, and CIS helped me realize that it was a possibility.”

Through CIS, Dawn was able to take a study skills course that earned her both high school and college credit with Central Piedmont Community College.

“Once I had this first credit under my belt and learned that college wasn’t as intimidating as I had feared, I enrolled at CPCC the following year as a full-time student and never looked back,” says Dawn.

After earning her A.A. degree at CPCC, Dawn was accepted at Queens University of Charlotte. She will graduate with a B.A. degree in Organizational Communications in December of this year.

Dawn is also working full-time as a Senior Legal Administrative Assistant with Bank of America.  After receiving her undergraduate degree, she would like to work in the corporate communications field, and eventually obtain her law degree.
